CREATE

Connecting Research and Education At Texas

Providing internships and lab experience to Austin Community College students since 2017.

Although invaluable, the ability to gain research and lab experience for community college students is limited by the class time allotted for labs. While 1 credit hour tends to provide enough time to meet standards and objectives, many students are curious to dive deeper.

CREATE seeks to address this issue by providing paid summer internships. With us, students have the opportunity to select areas of research which excite them while simultaneously helping them narrow their focus of study throughout their college careers.

About the author:

Jessica Boette is a two-time summer CREATE intern who worked in the Roberts group at UT Austin for more than three years. Currently, she is working and studying at the University of Pittsburgh pursuing a PhD in Organic Chemistry. There she is part of the Wipf Group researching medicinal chemistry, methodology, and total synthesis of natural products.

"My time in the CREATE program was completely life changing. I learned how to think and operate in a research setting as well as learned so much about chemistry. I found my home in this community where every mentor I had was so excited to pass on their expertise. It was both humbling and so inspiring! I came out of my experience trained by scientists at the top of their field but also with the drive to pay that experience forward. That is the type of scientist that CREATE makes you." -J. Boette
